Background and objectives
The UC Public Innovation Lab (LIP) is an interdisciplinary initiative that, since 2013, works with others in order to solve complex public problems. Led by the Center for Public Policies and the School of Design of the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, the LIP articulates the participation of UC academics, professionals and students in projects that use innovation to generate public value.

Combining public policy and design expertise, the LIP seeks to involve all relevant stakeholders in the design of public systems and services. The products, services, methodologies and knowledge developed by the Lab are made available to the public.

  • Primary research areas and activities

Our main areas of interest for research and practice are public systems and service design. We also work and research extensively on how to pilot and scale initiatives in the public sector, how to generate, externalise and manage knowledge and are constantly exploring and imagining new ways of collaboration and dialogue.

Our work is based on three principles: in depth research, co-production and co creation. We believe in the power of rigorous and in depth qualitative and quantitative research, which enables collaborative processes based both on evidence and experience. We work under the premise that systems and services are co- produced and require active participation of all those involved in order to generate public value. We seek to co-create solutions facilitating deliberative collective processes that are feasible, applied and always open to change and improvement.
